COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – MSU Denver's
Laolu Oke is 2-for-2 in earning RMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors in men's basketball this season.
Oke did it all again in a 71-61 win over San Francisco State with a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds (13 defensive) while also recording a career-high tying four steals and one blocked shot. Leading the RMAC's best defense (59.0 points allowed and 35.8 opponent field goal percentage), Oke helped hold the Gators to 36.4 percent from the field, including 29.0 percent in the 2nd half.
Oke, who extended his school-record streak of double-doubles to seven games, leads NCAA Division II in rebounds per game (14.3) and double-doubles and is third nationally in defensive rebounds per game (9.7). He leads the RMAC in those two categories as well as offensive rebounds per game (4.7), ranks second in total rebounds (43), and is third in steals per game (3.0) and tied for 10th in blocked shots per game (1.0).
The 2020-21 RMAC Defensive Player of the Year has helped the Roadrunners to their first 3-0 start since 2014-15.
Oke has won five straight RMAC Defensive Player of the Week awards dating back to last season and has won the honor eight times for his career.
