COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – MSU Denver's women's tennis team gave Air Force a run for its money Saturday in its second exhibition dual against an NCAA Division I opponent before falling 5-2.
The Roadrunners earned the doubles point as
Helena Steenberg and
Gala Castello won 6-4 at No. 1 and sophomores
Isabel Heras and
Marie Cool turned in a dominant 6-2 victory at No. 3.
At No. 1 singles, MSU Denver's
Brooklyn Ross captured a hard-fought 7-6, 7-6 win over Air Force senior Meredith Jones, who was 22-14 against primarily Division I competition in 2019-20.
Isabel Heras forced a first-set tiebreaker at No. 4 before falling 7-6, 6-4, and the Roadrunners won at least three games in all but one set, but they were unable to pick up another singles victory.
