@MSUDenverTennis: Roadrunners Fall to Division I Denver

Jack McDermott and Auzias pick up a victory in doubles

DENVER – The MSU Denver men's tennis team matched up against a talented Denver team in its first dual match of the spring season. The Pioneers, a Division I program, walked away with a 7-0 victory.

"We played a very good DU team that played better tennis today," MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz said.  "I was happy to see JL and Jack get a win in doubles."
Graetz was referencing the dominant 6-2 victory of Jack McDermott and Jeanloup Auzias at No. 3 doubles. McDermott also put up a fight at No. 2 singles, but it wasn't enough to defeat Mattia Ros of Denver in a 6-4, 6-2 setback.

David Kijak and Mateo Besada also battled in their No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches, winning four games each in the first set. Besada eventually fell to a 6-4, 6-2 loss and Kijak suffered a 6-4, 6-0 loss.

Although the Roadrunners were defeated by a very talented Pioneers team, Graetz is optimistic about the matches coming up.

"There's plenty to look forward too as we head to Wichita Falls in a few days," Graetz said.

The Roadrunners will be looking to bounce back this weekend as they head to Wichita Falls, Texas, for four matches.
