Box Score DENVER – The MSU Denver women's tennis team pulled out a tight win against Dallas Baptist on Friday to close out its home stand.

After the first four singles matches came to a close, the Roadrunners were leading the dual 3-2 going into the final two matches of the day. Luckily, the Roadrunners only need one of those two matches to secure the win, and that came at the racquet of Marie Cool.

"Happy for Marie to get the clinch win!" MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz said.

Cool and Lilly Stienemeier took the singles courts to try to bring home the final point to win the dual. Cool was able to beat Stienemeier to the punch by winning her match quickly with a score of 6-2, 6-1.

MSU Denver improved to 4-5 for the season.

"I am really proud of the ladies today," Graetz said. "We have had some close losses this season, and to have a close win is a nice feeling."

The Roadrunners put the pressure on Dallas Baptist early by taking the doubles point with solid wins at Nos. 1 and No. 2 doubles by scores of 6-2 in both matches.

Brooklyn Ross continued her streak of great tennis by winning at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, to give the women a solid 2-0 lead.  

Dallas Baptist would not go away without a fight however, as Helena Steenberg and Isabel Heras dropped their singles matches in three sets. Steenberg lost after a phenomenal battle at No. 2 singles in a match that could've gone either way 6-1, 6-7 (5), 5-7.

The day turned back around in the Roadrunners' favor after Gala Castello won a crucial point to give them a 3-2 lead, which set Cool up to win the final point.

The women's tennis team will hope to build off these wins as it heads to California to play four PacWest Conference matches starting March 22.
