DENVER – The No. 18 MSU Denver baseball team showed no signs of slowing down Friday, with strong efforts at the plate and on the mound in a 16-4 victory over Colorado Christian.
The Roadunners scored five runs in their first at-bat and five more in their final frame, got a quality start from pitcher
Logan Soole and extended their best-ever start to the season to 16-1 overall.
"I thought we played really well on both sides," MSU Denver coach
Ryan Strain said. "It was a great team win."
Chase Anderson went 3-for-4 to extend his season-opening hitting streak to 17 games,
Niko Piazza went 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and
Caleb Albaugh was 3-for-5 with three runs and a stolen base.
Jake Williams,
Dylan Nelson and
Jackson VanZee all homered in a 16-hit outburst.
The Roadrunners have scored at least 11 runs in five straight games.
"Offensively, 1 through 9, we had great at-bats – especially early in the game," Strain said. "We just continued to put pressure on them. And the guys who came in off the bench also had some great at-bats."
Soole (2-0) logged a quality start, allowing one run on three hits, with one walk and nine strikeouts, in six innings.
Clayton Burke,
Gabe Austin and
Tyler Schultz finished up. MSU Denver pitchers recorded 13 strikeouts while holding Colorado Christian to six hits.
"We pitched really well," Strain said. "Logan gave us a great start, and the other guys came in and threw the ball well.
MSU Denver's weekend pod at the Regency Athletic Complex continues with a 1 p.m. game Saturday against CSU-Pueblo (7-10, 5-8). The ThunderWolves are the only team to have beaten the Roadrunners this season.
"We've got to stay focused and be ready to go tomorrow against Pueblo," Strain said. "It'll be a good challenge for us."
