DENVER – Despite a game-tying second-half goal by
Gianni Steijlen, the MSU Denver men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision Friday at Regis.
Regis' Jean Carre scored at 34:59, then Kristian Hooker (who had assisted on Carre's goal) scored at 73:40, just 2:42 at Steijlen had scored the equalizier.
Steijlen scored his sixth career goal by turning on a defending, getting some open space and then sliding a shot into the lower left corner.
MSU Denver had a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal, though Regis had more shot attempts (14-12) and a slight edge in corner kicks (3-2).
"We were second-best in too many parts of the game and it cost us," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "I'm glad we were able to fight back and respond in the second half, but mistakes keep costing us. The great part was that a lot of guys got valuable minutes in a tight RMAC contest which will help push the group forward."
