DENVER – MSU Denver's men's soccer team suffered a second straight 2-1 defeat Sunday, falling at home to Westminster.
The young Roadrunners (1-3 overall, 1-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) scored first, as
Aaron Biggerstaff tapped in a
Sam Funnell corner kick for his second goal of the season at 15:33.
But Westminster (1-1-1, 1-0-1) answered with the tying goal at 24:10 and eventually scored the game-winner at 70:18.
Westminster doubled MSU Denver in shots (16-8), though it had only a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. MSU Denver had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Parker Landry,
Gianni Steijlen,
Noah Hannula and
Bryson Chiles joined Biggerstaff in putting shots on goal.
"We had a positive start today," MSU Denver coach
Nick Kirchhof said. "We scored the first goal off a good delivery from Sam and a good flick from Aaron.
"But as the game went on, we made too many mistakes and that cost us the result. We will learn from these teachable moments and continue to get better."
