WICHITA FALLS, Texas – The MSU Denver women's team came close but fell short 4-3 Saturday, while the men's team also fell 6-1 against Southeastern Oklahoma State.

The women picked up two victories in singles matches by Brooklyn Ross and Gala Castello at  Nos. 1 and 4, respectively. Marie Cool was in the deciding match at No. 6 but ultimately fell 4-6, 7-5, 5-7.

"I'm super proud of Marie in the clinch match today," MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz said. "Even though she didn't get the result, she competed hard and gave it everything she had."

Ross and Isabel Heras won 6-3 at No. 1, with Cool and Castello also won 6-2 at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point for the women.

"It was a great match even though it didn't go our way," Graetz said. "We are doing a great job in doubles ,and that is putting us in a position to win."

For the men David Kijak clinched the lone victory for the men No. 5, winning 6-2, 7-6 (3). Both Mateo Besada (No. 3 singles) and Alejandro Martinez-Morilla (No. 4) lost three-set decisions.

"The men started a little slow in doubles and that cost us," Graetz said. "I thought we did a good job of competing, but struggled with our execution on big points."

MSU Denver looks to finish strong and continues its road trip in Wichita Falls on Sunday, with both the men and women facing host Midwestern State (Texas) at 2 p.m. MST.
