COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The MSU Denver men's and women's tennis teams took on Colorado College for the second time in a little over a week on Sunday, and both programs earned 7-0 sweeps.
"Both teams started and finished strong," MSU Denver coach
Josh Graetz said. "I thought it was a good day."
The women continued their run of great tennis to move over the .500 mark on the season, earning their 10
th win. They did so without dropping a single set on the day.
Brooklyn Ross and
Isabel Heras, ranked No. 17 in Division II, continued to build their doubles resume by getting a firm 6-0 victory. The duo is now 12-2 on the season with one more match before the PacWest tournament begins.
Ross was out of the singles, which pushed the rest of the team up a spot.
They did not disappoint.
Helena Steenberg cruised through her No. 1 singles match, winning 6-1, 6-2.
Lilly Stienemeier and
Marie Cool each won a set without dropping a game at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
Kayla Myburgh earned her way into the lineup at No. 6 singles, and she played well in earning a 6-4, 6-3 victory to seal the singles sweep for the women.
The men improved from their last meeting against the Tigers, where they won 6-1, to earn the sweep today and a 7-0 win.
They got off to a strong start by playing dominant tennis on the doubles court. The men, as a program, dropped a total of 3 games among all three of the doubles matches.
Jack McDermott and
Jeanloup Auzias set the tone for the doubles matches at No. 2 doubles earning a 6-0 victory.
The men took the momentum from their doubles performances to the singles court. McDermott, Auzias,
Alejandro Martinez-Morilla, and
David Kijak all won at least one set 6-0, and no man dropped more than four games throughout the whole dual.
Auzias was given the task of taking on the Tiger who won the sole point for the Tigers last weekend. Auzias started off hot, winning the first set 6-0 before dropping the second 6-4. Their match went into a one game tiebreak in the 3
rd set, and Auzias walked away victorious.
The Roadrunners saw
Billy McDermott earn his way on to the No. 6 singles court, and he walked away with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 victory.
The MSU Denver tennis programs have one more match on the spring season before PacWest tournament play begins on April 21. They will take on their rival Colorado Mesa for a second time on Friday, at 1 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colo.
