Box Score SURPRISE, Ariz. – Dramatic second-set singles victories by
Brooklyn Ross and
Lilly Stienemeier lifted MSU Denver to a 4-2 victory over Point Loma (Calif.) on Friday and put the Roadrunners into the fifth-place match at the Pacific West Conference Tournament.
Having won the doubles point and getting a quick win from
Marie Cool at No. 6 singles, MSU Denver saw itself tied after wins by Point Loma at No. 4 and No. 2 singles.
The three remaining matches were incredibly tight, but Ross rallied from 5-4 down in the second set to win 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1, and Stienemeier clinched it with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory at No. 5. At No. 3 singles,
Isabel Heras had been pushed into a third set after falling 10-8 in a second-set tiebreaker when the dual was clinched.
MSU Denver improved to 12-10 for the season and avenged a 6-1 loss at Point Loma on March 24, when it played without Ross. The Roadrunners are 8-1 in their last nine duals.

Josh Graetz said. "To be able to turn around the result from the last time is a testament to their resilience.

By winning for the second time in three days in its first-ever PacWest Tournament, ninth-seeded MSU Denver has moved into a 9 a.m. MST (10 a.m. Denver time) Saturday dual against No. 6 seed Fresno Pacific, which edged No. 7 seed Academy of Art (Calif.) 4-3 on Friday.
