SPEARFISH, S.D. – Annie Rolf scored two of MSU Denver's season-high three goals as the Roadrunners' women's soccer team rolled to a 3-1 victory Saturday at Black Hills State.
MSU Denver (2-3 overall, 1-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) overwhelmed the Yellow Jackets with 46 shots, including 19 shots on goal.
"It was good to get the win, break through, and score multiple goals," MSU Denver interim coach
Bonnie Young said. "Hopefully we can use this to gain momentum going forward. To have 46 shots is a positive, but to have that only result in three goals means our shots-to-goal ratio still needs to improve."
It was MSU Denver's highest single-game shots total since taking 51 in a 4-0 win over Colorado Christian on Oct. 30, 2005, and its most shots on goal since putting 21 on net against Black Hills State on Oct. 16, 2016.
After giving up a goal just 5:48 into the game, the Roadrunners countered 75 seconds later as Rolf scored her third goal of the season, outracing Black Hills State defenders and then sneaking a shot under the goalkeeper after she came out to try to stop Rolf.
Rolf scored again at 51:31, knocking a loose ball into the left corner after a cross was fumbled off the feet of several players in the box.
Luna Garcia scored on a penalty kick at 56:21.
"Annie and Adi (
Arantxa Melendez) were outstanding, and we had strong performances from Luna, Kailey (Maness) and
Katy Harris as well," Young said. "We're getting closer to a complete strong performance from the whole group."
