PUEBLO, Colo. – The MSU Denver men's and women's tennis teams were on opposite ends of 6-1 decisions in duals against Dallas Baptist on Friday, with the men coming up victorious and the women losing a second straight dual.
"The guys started tentatively, but settled into the match as it went on," MSU Denver coach
Josh Graetz said. "I'm glad we got a dual match in for them this fall."
Originally scheduled to play two neutral-court duals Friday in Pueblo, Colo., both teams settled for playing only once after Texas-Permian Basin didn't make the trip.
In men's singles, the Roadrunners won at every position but No. 1 and even then
Carlos Pinedo went to a super-set, falling 10-7.
Billy McDermott won impressively at No. 6 by 6-0, 6-1.
MSU Denver won two of three in doubles to get the early point.
For the women, true freshman
Ava Neuburger-Higby won for the second time in as many days at No. 2, this time by 5-7, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (10-7).
Isabel Heras at No. 1 and
Lilly Stienemeier at No. 3 each lost in three sets – Heras' defeat was by 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4).
"Our ladies didn't execute as well as I would have liked in doubles, but to their credit we fought and competed hard in singles, Graetz said.
The Roadrunners' women play Fort Hays State (Kan.) on Saturday at 8 a.m. in another match in Pueblo.
