DENVER – No. 2 MSU Denver just kept doing what it has been doing.
The Roadrunners faced a third straight second-division Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent on Saturday and did pretty much exactly what they did against the previous two, hitting .400 while sweeping Black Hills State 25-12, 25-14, 25-16 at the Auraria Event Center.
"It's not just that we're getting kills, we're also staying pretty efficient and not erroring a lot, which can be pretty easy to do in a match where you're in control," MSU Denver coach
Jenny Glenn said. "I'm really pleased with our offense's development this weekend."
MSU Denver (15-1 overall, 8-0 RMAC) has now posted six straight sweeps for the first time since November, 2019, also extended its streak of regular-season RMAC wins to 30.
Last weekend, after a grueling three-set win at then-No. 20 Colorado Mesa, MSU Denver finished off the weekend by hitting .396 at Westminster. Friday night, the Roadrunners hit a season-best .407.
Including Saturday's win, the Roadrunners have hit .401 (131 kills, 22 errors, 272 attacks) over their last three matches.
"It starts with the pass," said setter
Delaney Eckhardt, who had 19 assists. "We were in the box a lot, and that allowed us to put the hitters in really good positions."
Riley Anderson had 10 kills on .500 hitting, while
Rylee Hladky added seven kills and
Kelsey Gordon had six on .600 hitting.
Haley White came off the bench for five kills on five swings in the third set.
"We played Roadrunner volleyball," White said. "It's attacking whoever is on the other side. We're learning every day."
Ashlyn Cianciulli matched her career high with four service aces and also had a team-high 11 digs, while
Mikayla McClinton had a team-best five blocks in just two sets.
Glenn was able to split the playing time at the two middle blocking positions with her top three players there, and defensive specialist
Brier Ziemer also made her second career appearance.
"It's always a challenge for a coach to make sure that we continue to get flow as a group as a whole, but to also work in players who we could need in any given moment," Glenn said. "I think you continue to see our players come in and do nice job regardless of the situation. It was great to get some athletes playing time and see them develop."
