Box Score 2 EMPORIA, Kan. – MSU Denver cruised to two tennis victories Saturday at Emporia State (Kan.), with the women posting a 7-0 sweep and the men earning five singles wins in a 5-2 decision.
"Our ladies did a great job today," MSU Denver coach
Josh Graetz said. "Emporia was better than maybe the score suggested. The doubles point was really important for us today, and I think that really pushed us forward into singles.
We did a good job of not trying to play above our level in windy conditions."
Freshman
Monica Guarin moved into the lineup at No. 6 singles and posted a 6-3, 6-2 win, and
Marie Cool won a close match at No. 5.
The men bounced back after dropping the doubles point.
Carlos Pinedo (6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles)) and
Alejandro Jimenez (6-0, 6-1 at No. 6) were dominant.
"We didn't play a good doubles point today, but I'm very proud of how we responded in singles," Graetz said. "There were very tough conditions today, and we could have very easily lost our focus. The men continue to get better and I'm just really happy for them."
