COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Four MSU Denver softball players have been named to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference second team, while first baseman Rebecca Gonzales has been awarded the league's Gold Glove at her position.
Pitcher Sarah Norton, catcher Jaiden Geist, outfielder Kami Grammerstorf and utility-pitcher Audrey Burt all made the All-RMAC second team in voting by league coaches.
Twelve of the 13 first team selections went to players from either Colorado Mesa or Colorado Christian, the top two teams in the league who combined to go 65-3 in regular-season RMAC play when not facing one another.
MSU Denver outfielder Shelby Robb, an All-American in 2021 limited to 43 games this season, is on the All-RMAC honor roll. And first baseman Rebecca Gonzales earned an RMAC Gold Glove at her position.
Norton, a sophomore who joined the program as a junior college transfer this season, went 11-6 with three saves and a 3.20 ERA during the regular season, recording 105 strikeouts in 122 2/3 innings. She was sixth in the RMAC in strikeouts, tied for seventh in wins, eighth in ERA and ninth in innings. A two-time RMAC Pitcher of the Week, she also was the starter and winner Thursday in the first round of the RMAC Tournament, and got the save in Thursday's second game victory over Colorado Mesa, improving her overall statistics to 12-6 with four saves and a 3.19 ERA.
Geist is a freshman who has come on strong while finishing the regular season at .333 with 12 doubles, seven homers and 32 RBIs. She had 23 RBIs over the last 20 games of the regular season while batting .429 (27-for-63). She was 1-for-7 with an RBI on Thursday, putting her at .323 with 34 RBIs overall.
The speedy Grammerstorf has been on a late-season tear and finished the regular season at .339 with six doubles, five triples, two homers and 22 RBIs to go with a perfect 17-for-17 in stolen base attempts. She finished the regular season sixth in the league in steals and was tied for 31st nationally with five triples. She was 2-for-5 on Thursday, putting her at .342 for the season. In her last 32 games, she's batting .436 (34-for-78) with 13 stolen bases.
Burt is a talented two-way player who has starred as both a pitcher and designated player. In the circle, she finished the regular season 11-7 with four saves and a 3.60 ERA while striking out 92 in 112 2/3 innings, while at the plate she batted .356 with seven doubles, six homers and 23 RBIs in only 73 at-bats. She led the RMAC in saves while ranking 12th nationally, and she tied for seventh in the RMAC in wins and was ninth in ERA. As a hitter, she also compiled the league's 11th-best slugging percentage at .699. Her updated statistics after playing Thursday at the RMAC Tournament: a .351 batting average and a 3.63 ERA.
Robb, the program's all-time batting average leader at .430, hit .343 this season with 13 doubles, four homers and 29 RBIs while recording 12 stolen bases.
Gonzales, the 2019 RMAC Freshman of the Year and a former outfielder, played exclusively at first this season, and led all RMAC players at the position with a .996 fielding percentage after recording 231 putouts and two assists with just one error.
