COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Three members of the MSU Denver cross country program have been named to the Academic All-RMAC first team.
Heidi Yagen has been joined on the women's first team by
Abi Read, while for the men
Cory Shea has been recognized.
In addition, seven other Roadrunners – four men and three women – have been named to the Academic All-RMAC honor roll. That list includes, for the men,
Jonathan Duran,
Elijah Garcia,
Ty Schauer and
Shota Yabuuchi, and for the women,
Tanis Chavez,
Caitlin Cornell and
Audrynn Street.
First team selections are the result of voting by league sports information directors.
To be eligible for All-RMAC first team honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50, must be in at least their second season with the program, and must have used a season of competition.
For honor roll selections, the same rules apply, though a 3.30 GPA is required.
Yagen is a repeat selection to the Academic All-RMAC first team. She was the 2022 RMAC Summit Award winner (highest GPA of competitors at the league championships). Yagen finished 63
rd at the RMAC Championships this season after placing 73
rd in 2023. She's been part of the Academic All-RMAC honor roll for both indoor and outdoor track & field, and is a two-time D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner. She has a 4.0 cumulative GPA while majoring in aviation & aerospace science.
Read, a 2023 CSC Academic All-District selection for cross country and track & field, moves up to the Academic All-RMAC first team after three seasons on the Academic All-RMAC honor roll (XC). She's also been a three-time Academic All-RMAC honor roll member in both indoor track & field and outdoor track & field. In outdoor track in the 10,000 meters, she's previously earned All-RMAC first team (2023) and second team (2022) status. She was 29
th at the 2023 RMAC Cross Country Championships after finishing 38th in 2022 and 35th in 2021. At the South Central Regional Cross Country Championships, she has placed 49th (2023), 43rd (2022) and 59th (2021). She was MSU Denver's No. 2 finisher in all 2023 cross country races. A past RMAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week winner, she's a two-time D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner as well as a 2021 USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete, 2021. She has a 3.81 cumulative GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering.
Shea, CSC Academic All-District for cross country and track & field in 2023, has previously been a three-time Academic All-RMAC honor roll selection in cross country, in indoor track & field, and in outdoor track & field. The two-time D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner placed 98th at the 2023 RMAC Cross Country Championships, and he was 85th in the same race in 2022. Shea has 3.77 cumulative GPA while majoring in industrial design.
Shea is MSU Denver's first Academic All-RMAC first team selection in men's cross country since Sam Berg in 2019.
