Denver – The Roadrunners got their groove back on Saturday as they earned two victories over UCCS.
"I'm really happy with how the guys bounced back today," said MSU Denver coach
Ryan Strain. "We got two great starts from (Andrew) Hayes and (Carson) Brown."
In game one, MSU Denver came out swinging and put up seven runs in the bottom of the first inning and then three more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
It seemed as if everyone was getting in on the offensive action. Seven players scored in the game while three players had multi-RBI games.
Ross Smith and
Caleb Albaugh each drove in four runs and
Cam Yuran added two more. The Roadrunners rolled to 13-1 victory.
On the mound, Hayes earned the victory allowing only one run on eight hits. He struck out five batters and didn't allow a walk in the game.
Gavin Kaiser also came into the game and delivered one scoreless inning.
"Our offense was very good in game one and did just enough to get us the win in game two," said Strain.
The second game was more of the same for the Roadrunners, although the runs were not crossing the plate. MSU Denver left runners on base in each inning, including twice with the bases loaded. Despite failing to take advantage of the opportunities, the Roadrunners were able to earn a 4-3 victory.
Carson Brown picked up his second win of the season and
Eric Cox notched his sixth save of the year.
"The bullpen did their job today with Kaiser and Cox both throwing well," said Strain.
MSU Denver will face UCCS on Sunday at noon at The Assembly Athletic Complex in the final game of the four-game series.
