Denver – MSU Denver had eight different players tally hits during the two-game sweep of Black Hills State on Saturday afternoon to move the Roadrunners to 17-1 in RMAC play.
"It was fun to watch people up and down our lineup contribute today," said MSU Denver coach
Annie Van Wetzinga.
The Roadrunners found themselves down early in game one, trailing 1-0 as they entered the top of the fourth inning. After
Miah Hartvigsen singled and Adrianna Bueno reached on an error,
Aaliyah Arellano knocked a triple to right field to open the scoring and MSU Denver would not look back.
Alexia Boring would drive in two more runs in the sixth inning and
Shelby Robb would hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to secure the 6-1 victory.
"We were able to use our speed and timely hitting to get things going in game one," said Van Wetzinga.
MSU Denver was able to keep the bats going in the second game of the day scoring two runs in each of the first five innings.
"In game two, I thought we came out attacking," said Van Wetzinga. "Jumping out to an early lead helps take some pressure off and it was really nice to keep tacking on the runs in each inning."
The Roadrunners held an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning capped off by Robb's second home run of the day. Following a three-run inning by the Yellow Jackets, MSU Denver put together three more runs of their own to earn the 11-3 victory in six innings.
In the circle,
Cheyenne Prieto pitched a complete game giving up only two hits and one run.
Maddy Wilson earned the victory in game two in three innings of relief allowing one run on four hits while striking out three batters.
MSU Denver will face Black Hills State for the final two games of the four-game series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at The Assembly Athletic Complex.
