@MSUDenverTennis: No. 35 Roadrunners Win Sixth Straight Dual

Kossifas, Auzias continue individual winning streaks

FRESNO, Calif. – The 35th-ranked MSU Denver men's tennis team completed a 3-0 trip to California with a 6-1 victory Monday over Fresno Pacific, while the Roadrunners' women suffered a closer-than-the-score-indicates 7-0 loss to the Sunbirds.

The Roadrunners' men won their sixth straight dual to improve to 10-3, with Stephen Kossifas extending his winning streak to seven with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) victory at No. 4 singles, and Jeanloup Auzias winning his fifth straight decision at No. 1 by a 6-3, 6-4 margin.

Alejandro Jimenez improved to 12-5 for the season and 26-10 for his career with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3, and Juho Kantola improved to 15-4 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 2.

Earlier, the 31st-ranked doubles team of Kantola and David Kijak won 6-2 at No. 1, and Auzias and Billy McDermott won 6-4 at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point.

"The men won a tough doubles point, and they took that momentum quickly into the initial singles matches," MSU Denver coach Josh Graetz said. "Overall the guys had a solid weekend and have things to build onto in practice this week."

In the women's dual, MSU Denver dropped to 9-5.

Fresno Pacific clinched the doubles point with a pair of 6-4 victories – MSU Denver was in position to win at No. 2 with Marie Cool and Hanna Haber leading 5-4.

Then the Roadrunners suffered several close losses in singles, including Isabel Heras at No. 2 (6-4, 7-5), Kinsey Fields at No. 3 (6-1, 4-6, 6-4) and Lilly Stienemeier at No. 5 (7-6, 4-6, 1-0).

"Today came down to execution for the ladies," Graetz said. "Doubles was tight and many of the singles matches were close. We will learn from today and use it for tomorrow's match."

The Roadrunners women have one final match on the trip, playing Tuesday at 3 p.m. MDT against Dominican (Calif.).
