SAN FRANCISCO – Showcasing its depth once again, the MSU Denver women's tennis team earned a hard-fought doubles point before winning singles matches at Nos. 3, 4 and 5 on Monday, wrapping up its West Coast trip with a 4-1 win over Dominican (Calif.).
"The doubles point was big for us today," MSU Denver coach
Josh Graetz said. "We started out really strong, and they came back at us hard. Credit to Dominican, I thought they competed hard and had great energy."
The Roadrunners' No. 1 doubles team of
Isabel Heras and
Kinsey Fields, ranked No. 15 in NCAA Division II, improved to 11-4 with a 7-6 (4) victory that clinched the doubles point.
Fields won a close match in singles as well, earning a 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-4) victory at No. 3.
Hanna Haber won at No. 4 by 6-0, 2-6, 6-1, and
Lilly Stienemeier breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 5.
MSU Denver improved to 10-5.
"We are finding ways to win dual matches in tight situations, which is nice to see," Graetz said. "There is plenty of room for improvement as well, which is great."
