@MSUDenverWBB: Fourth quarter woes send Roadrunners to 74-66 loss to Fort Lewis

Nevaeh Millard leads MSU Denver with season-high 15 points

DURANGO, Colo – The Roadrunners offense connected on just three field goals in the fourth quarter, as the Skyhawks took the 74-66 victory to start conference play.

The loss drops MSU Denver to 1-6 overall, and 0-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Fort Lewis improves to 3-5 and 1-0 in the RMAC.

MSU Denver was shooting 50 percent from the field and carried a 10-point lead early in the third quarter. But Fort Lewis guard Katie Lamb found her shooting stroke scoring 15 second half points on her way to a game-high 22.

It was a 61-60 lead for the visiting team after Mikylah Espinosa found Jackie Pippett in the paint for an easy layup. The Roadrunners scored 38 points in the paint on the evening. But Fort Lewis outscored MSU Denver 14-5 over the final 3:47.

There were 10 different Roadrunners that scored at least one point, but they struggled at the free throw converting just 22 times in 35 attempts for a 62 percent mark. The three-point line was also an issue, as the team connected on just 2-of-16 from long range.

Freshman guard Nevaeh Millard led the way on offense for MSU Denver, scoring a season-high 15 points, while senior forward Jackie Pippett pulled down seven rebounds and scored 12 points.

The Roadrunners will search for that first conference win this Saturday afternoon when they visit Alamosa, Colorado to battle Adams State.
