@MSUDenverWBB: Roadrunners find shooting touch to take down Grizzlies

70-64 win gives MSU Denver their first RMAC victory on the season

ALAMOSA, Colo – After a rough shooting first quarter, the Roadrunners got hot and shot 56 percent over the final three quarters to defeat Adams State 70-64. 
 
The win improved MSU Denver's record to 2-6 overall, with a 1-1 record in conference play. The Grizzlies fall to 6-5 and 1-1 in the RMAC.
 
MSU Denver struggled in the first quarter after shooting just 26 percent from the field while missing a few layups. The team scored just nine points on 4-of-15 shooting. 
 
Freshman Navaeh Millard spurred the offense for the Roadrunners in the second quarter, scoring nine points on 4-of-4 from the field. Her squad put up 21 points in the second frame and carried a 30-28 lead at halftime. Junior Ashlyn Yow chipped in seven points and two steals. 
 
Veterans Mikylah Espinosa and Brianna Sealy came on strong in the second half for the Roadrunners, scoring a combined 24 points to help the squad pull away for their second victory this season. 
 
Espinosa finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals, Sealy scored 16 points while pulling down eight rebounds and blocking two shots and for the second straight night, Millard outscored her previous career-high, this time reaching 19 points. 
 
MSU Denver dominated the glass, grabbing 49 rebounds to Adams State's 28. The Grizzlies had just eight second chance points in the game. 
 
Head coach Tanya Haave and her squad will be back in downtown Denver next Thursday, as they will welcome in Western Colorado to the Auraria Event Center.
