KEARNEY, Neb. – The MSU Denver men's tennis team completed a 3-0 weekend with a 5-2 victory Saturday over Newman (Kan.), while the Roadrunners' women lost to Newman by the same 5-2 score in a dual that was much closer than the final score indicates.
Jeanloup Auzias, MSU Denver's No. 1 singles player, completed an undefeated weekend with a 6-4, 6-3 victory, while No. 3
Alejandro Jimenez also finished 3-0 for the weekend after winning a tight 7-6, 6-7, 1-0 (10-8) decision.
The Roadrunners started the dual by winning the doubles point, and also got singles victories from
Marco Jalalian at No. 4 and
Maximo Lawlor at No. 6.
The MSU Denver women, forced to come from behind after dropping the doubles point, lost three singles matches in super sets –
Kim Heddes at No. 2, Courtney Leonard at No. 4, and
Monica Guarin at No. 6. Heddes was beaten 11-9 in the super set, while Leonard lost 10-8.
Lilly Stienemeier won at No. 3, and
Kambra Roles won at No. 5.
