PUEBLO, Colo. – Kambra Roles,
Monica Guarin and
Louise Hosking all won two singles matches Friday to help lift the MSU Denver women's tennis team to 5-2 dual victories over both Newman (Kan.) and Fort Hays State (Kan.).
Meanwhile, the Roadrunners' men suffered a second straight 4-3 defeat in as many days, this time against Newman.
The women closed out the day with two super-set wins to clinch the dual against Fort Hays State – Roles won 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 3, and freshman Victoria Ricuarte-Cabas won 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 2.
Roles played No. 4 against Newman and won that match 6-3, 7-5. She also won both of her No. 1 doubles matches while playing with
Kim Heddes.
Guarin won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 against Newman and 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 in the second dual. Hosking rallied for a 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-7) win at No. 6 in the opener and 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 against Fort Hays State.
The MSU Denver women improved to 2-1.
For the men, five of the six singles matches went to a super set, and MSU Denver won three of them but still came up just short.
Lluc Limongi Ollers won 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-4) at No. 2,
Hector Cebrian Moral won 4-6, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 5, and
Reid Rainwater won 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) at No. 6.
Both teams play Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Saturday at 9 a.m.
