DENVER – The MSU Denver women's soccer team broke through in a big way Friday afternoon, scoring five times in a 5-0 victory over New Mexico Highlands at the Assembly Athletic Complex to earn the first career win for head coach Katie Hooker.
The Roadrunners (now 1-4-4 overall, 1-1-1 RMAC) ended a five-match scoreless streak by netting their most goals in nearly two years, recording their first RMAC win of the season in dominant fashion. The five-goal outburst brings their season total to seven.
Junior Madrid Mack led the charge with her first two goals of the year, becoming the only Roadrunner this season to score multiple goals in a match.
Isa Durkin added her first goal of 2025 — the fifth of her career — while fellow senior Nicole Thompson had a breakout day with her first career goal as a Roadrunner and two assists, totaling four points.
Freshman Addison Mandeville also scored her first career goal on a second-half penalty kick.
Mack (5) and Thompson's (4) career day puts them atop the leaders in points for the Roadrunners on the campaign.
Thompson's strike in the 13th minute opened the scoring, and less than a minute later she set up Mack for her first of the afternoon. Mack struck again in the 57th minute, before Durkin finished a feed from Thompson in the 64th. Mandeville capped the scoring with her penalty conversion in the 77th.
It was also a day of firsts defensively, as freshman goalkeeper Kiley Hyde earned her first career start and recorded a shutout with two saves.
The Roadrunners fired 11 shots on goal — their most since Oct. 12, 2023, when they put 14 on frame in a 6-0 win against the same New Mexico Highlands program. Friday's five-goal effort was their highest output since that contest.
MSU Denver will look to keep the momentum going at home when they host UCCS on Sunday at noon at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
