DENVER – MSU Denver couldn't sustain the momentum from Friday's breakthrough victory, falling 4-1 to UCCS on Sunday afternoon at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
The Roadrunners dropped to 1-5-4 overall and 1-2-1 in RMAC play, while the nationally No. 12 ranked Mountain Lions improved to 7-1-2 and 3-0-1 in the conference.
Despite playing down a player for nearly 80 minutes, the Roadrunners battled throughout. Junior Jenelle Arenibas provided the early spark, scoring her second goal of the season in the 14th minute to even the match at 1-1 after UCCS opened with a penalty kick goal in the fifth minute.
Goalkeeper Kayla Caballero received a red card in the 11th minute, forcing freshman Kiley Hyde into extended action. Hyde provided four saves for the Roadrunners in relief.
UCCS took advantage of the numerical edge, scoring in the 37th, 63rd, and 83rd minutes to pull away.
MSU Denver will look to bounce back at home on Thursday, October 9, when they take on CSU Pueblo at 6 p.m. for another conference showdown.
