DURANGO, Colo. – MSU Denver extended its unbeaten streak to five matches with a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon at Fort Lewis, wrapping up the opening weekend of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play on the road.
The Roadrunners are now 3-2-5 overall and 1-0-1 in RMAC play, while Fort Lewis moved to 4-1-3 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference.
Sophomore midfielder Matt Vogel continued his remarkable run of form, scoring his third goal of the season in the 25th minute to draw the Roadrunners level after the Skyhawks' early opener. Vogel has now scored in three consecutive matches and has tallied eight points over his last four outings, tying Adan Perez for the team lead with three goals on the year.
Vogel's equalizer came off a long forward service from Robert Sumner, which he controlled before chipping a shot over the charging goalkeeper from 25 yards out.
Goalkeeper Nick McNeil anchored the defense once again, making four saves to secure the result, including several key stops in the closing minutes.
MSU Denver outshot Fort Lewis 9-4 in the first half and finished with 13 total shots and five corner kicks on the day.
The draw capped a strong opening week of conference play for the Roadrunners, who earned four points on the road after Friday's 6-0 win at Adams State. Over their last three matches, MSU Denver has outscored its opponents 8-1 while showing balance on both ends of the field.
The Roadrunners will return home on Thursday for an RMAC matchup with Colorado School of Mines at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
