DENVER – MSU Denver men's soccer continued its unbeaten run with a commanding 3-0 victory over Colorado School of Mines on Thursday afternoon at the Assembly Athletic Complex. With the win, the Roadrunners improved to 4-2-5 overall and 2-0-1 in RMAC play, while the Orediggers fell to 2-3-4 overall and 1-1-0 in the RMAC.
After a scoreless first half, the Roadrunners erupted for three goals in the final 45 minutes. Charlie Matsumoto opened the scoring in the 50th minute with his second goal of the season, sparking the home side's momentum.
Just 90 seconds later, Robert Sumner netted his first career collegiate goal, assisted by Cooper Landry, to double the advantage. MSU Denver added an insurance tally in the 74th minute on an Orediggers own team goal to seal the win.
The Roadrunners' defense was solid throughout, holding Mines to just three shots on goal while goalkeeper Nick McNeil earned his fourth shutout of the season, and three in the last four matches. With the result, MSU Denver extended its unbeaten streak to six matches and secured the season series against Colorado School of Mines, 1-0-1.
MSU Denver returns to action Friday, October 17, for another RMAC home matchup against South Dakota Mines at 6 p.m. MT at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
