DENVER — MSU Denver men's basketball broke through in a big way on Monday afternoon, picking up its first win of the season with a high-powered 113–103 victory over Sul Ross State at the Auraria Event Center. With the win, the Roadrunners move to 1–1 overall, while Sul Ross State drops to 0-2.
The 113 points mark MSU Denver's highest scoring output in more than 20 years — the most since the 2003–04 season, when the Roadrunners scored 114 against Evergreen. It was an offensive explosion fueled by efficiency, and a lights-out shooting performance across the roster.
MSU Denver featured four players with at least 17 points, showcasing a balanced attack that Sul Ross State couldn't slow down. Seven Roadrunners scored eight or more points in the win.
The long-range shooting was a major difference-maker. Garrett Falls, Logan Threatt, Quave Propst-Allison, Adam Hackett, and freshman Daniel Thomason combined to go 12-for-17 from 3-point range, powering MSU Denver to one of its most efficient perimeter outings in recent memory.
Threatt paced MSU Denver with a team-high in both scoring and assists, pouring in another standout offensive performance to help set the tone. Propst-Allison added a huge night of his own, finishing as one of four Roadrunners with 17 or more points, continuing his early-season scoring surge.
Thomason was perfect from the floor in his second collegiate game, finishing 5-for-5 in an impressive showcase.
As a group, the Roadrunners shot 59.7 percent from the field, their best shooting performance since hitting 63.0 percent against Western State during the 2017–18 season.
The Roadrunners now turn their attention to a tough road test on Thursday, traveling to Texas A&M–Kingsville for a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
