TOPEKA, Kan. — MSU Denver women's basketball put together its most productive offensive outing of the season, but a late push wasn't enough in a 78–68 setback to Northeastern State on Friday at the Washburn Classic.
The Roadrunners move to 0–3 overall, while Northeastern State improves to 4–0.
Three Roadrunners reached double figures, led by Jadyn Watts, who posted a season-best 13 points on 5-for-12 shooting while adding two rebounds. Mikylah Espinosa continued her strong start with 12 points, six assists, and three rebounds, and Madi Johnson added 10 points, four rebounds and four assists—also a season-high scoring mark for her.
MSU Denver delivered several season-best team performances, including:
- Season-high 44.4% from 3-point range (8-for-18)
- Season highs in rebounds (35), assists (25), and blocks (3)
- Season-high point totals for Johnson, Espinosa, and Watts
The Roadrunners also saw scoring boosts off the bench from Nevaeh Millard (8 points) and Aaliyah Holmes (6 points) while shooting an efficient 85.7% from the free-throw line as a team.
After falling behind by double digits in the second quarter, MSU Denver surged back with a 26-point fourth quarter—its highest-scoring period of the season—to cut the deficit to single digits late. But Northeastern State answered at the line to close out the game.
MSU Denver returns to action quickly, taking the floor again Saturday at 3 p.m. against host Washburn, wrapping up its weekend in Topeka.
