Senior guard scores eight points down stretch to lead squad to 76-66 victory


SALT LAKE CITY, Utah: Mikylah Espinosa scored a season-high 32 points to lead the women's basketball team to the 76-66 win over Westminster University on the road.
 
The victory improved the Roadrunners record to 3-7 overall and 2-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Griffins fall to 2-6 overall with an 0-4 record in RMAC play. 
 
Espinosa hit on 9-of-her-18 field goals and 11-of-13 from the free throw line to carry MSU Denver to the team's first road win of the season. It was a tie game at 61-61 with 3:52 on the clock before the senior guard scored eight of her 32 points in the final stretch to help her team secure the win.
 
The Griffins were led by junior forward Madison Anderson, who scored a team-high 18 points, while also pulling down nine rebounds. 
 
The Roadrunners bench scored 35 of the team's 76 points with 21 of those come from sophomore guard Nevaeh Millard. The Denver native piled in 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting while also converting 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. It was her second 20+ point effort on the season after racking up 23 against Fort Lewis.
 
There were 15 ties and 16 lead changes in this one. 
 
MSU Denver took advantage of 25 Westminster fouls connecting on 27-of-31 from the free throw line. They shot 87%, which was a season high for the Red and Blue. 
 
The Roadrunners will head back home next week for a couple of non-conference games. They'll first battle Lubbock Christian on Thursday before finishing up their December schedule with a game against Manhattan Christian College the following Saturday.
