@MSUDenverSB: Roadrunners' offense helps finish sweep of Yellow Jackets

MSU Denver outscores Billings 51-13 in series opener

DENVER – The Roadrunners finished off a tremendous weekend completing the four-game sweep of the Yellow Jackets on Sunday.

The two wins improved MSU Denver's record to 4-0 on the season, while Montana State-Billings falls to 0-4.

After outscoring the Yellow Jackets 28-9 on Saturday, the offense kept the good times rolling on Sunday outscoring MSUB 23-4.

Cheyenne Prieto was solid from the circle in game one, giving up just one earned run on four base hits and going the distance for her first win of 2025.

Offensively in game one, the Roadrunners piled up 12 runs on 14 hits and had six players connect on at least two hits. That included Hannah DiFabio, who was masterful in lead-off hitting duties going 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two RBI, a walk and two stolen bases.

Katie Maney scored twice and drove in two runs while nabbing a stolen base and Aaliyah Arellano also went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored and two RBI.

The Roadrunners won 12-1 in five innings.

Game two was much more a barn burner, as neither team scored in the first three innings. Jenna Medus got the start for the Red and Blue and pitched well considering she hadn't pitched since the Spring of 2024. She went three innings, didn't give up a run and struck out two.

The Yellow Jackets had a chance to take the lead in the fourth inning. Lauren Blaschak doubled and Bryn Lucht walked to start the inning and Coach Van Wetzinga brought in Sam Mader in relief. Peyton Roberge singled and the bases were loaded with no outs. But Mader buckled down and got a pop up and an inning ending double play to get out of the jam.

That sparked the offense in their half of the fifth, as Adriana Bueno drove in a run on a groundout, Maney came through with a sacrifice fly and DiFabio singled in a run to put the home team up 3-0.

The Yellow Jackets answered back with three runs of their own in the fifth, but the Roadrunners would pile up seven runs in the sixth to come away with the 11-3 victory.

DiFabio also stole a base in game two and finished the weekend with three to stand at 53 stolen bases in her Roadrunners career. She is one back of former teammate Shelby Robb, who sits in fifth place all-time with 57.

The Roadrunners will head off to Texas this weekend to take on St. Edward's in Austin and St. Mary's in San Antonio.
