DENVER — The MSU Denver Roadrunners dropped a dramatic final game in the series to Regis, falling by a score of 17-13. Both teams combined for 33 hits and 30 runs.
Cam Yuran led the way on the offensive side of things for the Roadrunners, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, three runs, and a walk. The senior had multiple clutch extra-base hits, with a homer and a double. It was his seventh big fly of the season, bringing him to 47 career home runs as a Roadrunner. He needs two more to tie the school record set by Zach Schuler last season.
River Jackson hit his third homer of the season for MSU Denver's first runs of the game. He went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs. Royce Vandine chipped in two hits and two RBIs.
Kobe Krenz tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Haydn Benoit, allowing just one hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers snagged the first runs of the game off a bases-clearing triple in the top half of the second. They drove in the runner on third with a single up the middle.
Jackson responded for the Roadrunners the following half inning with a huge two-run home run to left-center field.
Regis extended their lead to six runs in the fourth frame, with another bases-clearing triple, this time hit by CJ Difiglia.
Yuran blasted a two-run homer of his own in the fourth, inching MSU Denver closer to the Regis lead.
Andrew Graham brought home the fifth Roadrunner run on a sac-fly in the bottom of the fifth, bringing home Erubiel Ortiz. Andrew Biddle drove home Jackson with a fielder's choice in the sixth, making it an 8-6 game in favor of the Rangers. Jesse Velders made it a one-run game, 8-7, a few batters later with a sac-fly to left field.
Graham came through in the clutch for the Roadrunners, dropping a bases-loaded two-RBI down the right-field line and giving MSU Denver their first lead of the game. Vandine slapped a line drive single into right the next at-bat to put the Red and Blue up 10-8 after six innings. The Rangers brought around two runs in the seventh to tie the game up at 10.
Regis recaptured the lead in the eighth, knocking in two more runs to go up 12-10. Yuran robbed the Rangers of a grand slam with a stunning catch up against the fence to keep the score the same.
After saving four runs the previous half inning, Yuran continued his impressive day at the plate with a two-RBI double to knot the game back at 12. Vandine brought him home on a sac-fly for a 13-12 lead for the Roadrunners.
Difiglia tied the game for the Rangers in the ninth on a single up the middle. Moulin laced a single of his own to then put his team back up 14-13 over the Roadrunners. Regis tacked on three more runs in the inning.
