DENVER – The MSU Denver Roadrunners proved victorious in both games during Saturday's doubleheader at home against Colorado School of Mines.
The Red and Blue won the first game by a score of 8-5, and the second game 1-0 thanks to a walk-off single by Natalie Shellhorn in the bottom half of the seventh.
GAME ONE
Natalie Romero earned her sixth win of the season en route to the Roadrunners' 8-5 win over the Orediggers. She threw 6.1 innings, allowing just one earned run on six hits and struck out seven.
The Roadrunners grabbed four of their eight runs in the first inning after earning six free passes and just one hit. Miki Berg recorded a sac-fly for one of her two RBIs in the game. Berg also had an RBI triple in the sixth inning to extend the Roadrunners' lead four.
Alexia Boring recorded the only multi-hit performance of the game for MSU Denver, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
GAME TWO
Jenna Medhus threw a complete game shutout in the Roadrunners' walk-off win, and improves to 2-1 on the young season. She had five strikeouts while allowing seven hits and one walk.
Natalie Shellhorn was the hero for the Red and Blue, bringing home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a line drive base hit down the first base line. Shellhorn came into the game for Katie Maney early on and went 2-for-3 in the contest.
