Roadrunners Split Sunday Doubleheader With Mines

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DENVER – The MSU Denver Roadrunners split Sunday's doubleheader with Colorado School of Mines.

The Red and Blue posted 16 runs and 15 hits in their 16-13 win over the Orediggers but could only muster four hits and one run in the 2-1 loss in game two.

MSU Denver is now 17-7 overall and 12-3 in RMAC play. Colorado School of Mines moves to 6-20 overall and 5-10 in conference play.

GAME ONE
It was a high-scoring affair in this one, with the two teams combining for 30 hits and 29 runs en route to a Roadrunners 16-13 win, extending their winning streak to nine games.

Genevieve Bower powered the Roadrunner offense, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, six RBIs, and two runs. Her first big fly of the contest put the Roadrunners up 2-0 in the first inning. Bower's second home run was a grand slam during the third frame, which extended MSU Denver's lead by seven, 13-6.

Jenna Medhus tallied three knocks, three RBIs, and two runs. She belted a three-run homer in the second inning to break the 4-4 tie at the time.

Katie Maney and Miki Berg each recorded three RBIs on two hits apiece. Berg brought home Medhus on an RBI double in the third to give the Roadrunners a commanding 14-6 lead early on. She drove in her other two runs on a homer in the fifth, the last runs of the game for MSU Denver. Maney slapped a two-RBI single in the Roadrunners seven-run third inning.

Cheyenne Preito earned the win for MSU Denver, tossing 4.1 innings of relief for Natalie Romero. Preito allowed six runs on eight hits.

GAME TWO
After both teams put on a scoring clinic in game one, it was a classic pitching duel in game two. MSU Denver came up short, falling 2-1 to Colorado School of Mines, snapping their nine-game winning streak.

Medhus took the circle again for the Roadrunners after tossing a complete-game shutout yesterday afternoon. Medhus allowed two runs on four hits and recorded four strikeouts.

Maney recorded three of the four hits by the Red and Blue, going 3-for-3 with a double. Berg hit a solo shot in the fourth inning for the Roadrunners' lone run of the contest.

UP NEXT
The Roadrunners will head on the road next weekend to take on Chadron State for a four-game series. They will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, with Saturday starting at noon MT with Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. MT.
