DENVER – MSU Denver men's soccer was unable to keep pace with a strong second half from Cal Poly Pomona, falling 3-0 on Friday night at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
After a scoreless first half in front of a lively crowd of 850 fans, the Broncos broke through with three goals in a 20-minute span. Clement Badger scored in the 48th minute, Marvin Gamez added another just two minutes later, and Sam Lena finished the scoring in the 67th minute.
The Roadrunners managed three shots in the first half – including on-target efforts from Charlie Matsumoto and Joey Kresnik – but were unable to generate much offense after halftime.
Goalkeeper Nick McNeil made one save before giving way to Shawn Mantey, who stopped two shots in relief.
With the result, MSU Denver moves to 1-2-2 overall. The Roadrunners will look to bounce back quickly as they remain at home to face California State Los Angeles on Sunday at noon at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
