DENVER – MSU Denver closed out non-conference play with a 1-1 draw against nationally-ranked Cal State LA on Sunday at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
The Golden Eagles struck first late in the opening half, but the Roadrunners answered in the 54th minute when Adan Perez buried a penalty kick for his second goal of the season. His two scores lead the team this year on the young campaign.
Goalkeeper Nick McNeil came up big for MSU Denver, making three saves to keep the match level as the Roadrunners fended off 10 Cal State LA shots.
The Roadrunners generated eight shots of their own with Perez, Charlie Lucero, and Joey Kresnik leading the attack, showing they could create chances against one of the toughest opponents on their schedule.
With the result, the Roadrunners move to 1-2-3 overall. MSU Denver now turns its attention to RMAC play, beginning Thursday with a road trip to Colorado School of Mines. Kickoff in Golden is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.
