@MSUDenverMSOC: Roadrunners Draw in Action Packed Match with Fort Hays State

DENVER – MSU Denver men's soccer battled to another hard-fought draw on Sunday, finishing 2-2 against Fort Hays State at The Assembly Athletic Complex. The result comes just three days after the Roadrunners opened their season with a 0-0 tie against Northwest Nazarene.

The match started fast, with Fort Hays State striking first in the 9th minute. The Roadrunners quickly answered, however, as Colin McKenna buried the equalizer in the 12th minute off an assist from Brendan O'Toole

MSU Denver seized the momentum later in the half when James Doidge scored in the 28th minute to give the Roadrunners a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

Despite playing a man up after a Fort Hays red card in the 34th minute, MSU Denver couldn't find an insurance goal. Fort Hays equalized in the 77th minute to level the match at 2-2, and neither side broke through in the closing stretch.

The Roadrunners generated a 16-9 advantage in shots and held 7-6 edge in shots on goal. McKenna, Doidge, and O'Toole led the attack, while goalkeeper Nick McNeil recorded four saves.

With the result, MSU Denver moves to 0-0-2 on the season. The Roadrunners will continue their homestand next week, looking to build on two gritty early-season performances before conference play begins.

They will take on Dominican at home, on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 3:30 p.m. MT.
