Roadrunners Earn First Win of the Season with 3-1 Victory over Dominican

DENVER – MSU Denver men's soccer picked up its first win of the 2025 season Thursday, powering past Dominican (CA) 3-1 at The Assembly Athletic Complex. The Roadrunners scored twice in the first half and added an insurance goal late, with each tally marking the first of the season for its scorer.

The Roadrunners struck quickly in the 9th minute when Dallas Baer slotted home the opener off a feed from Brendan O'Toole.

Just over 20 minutes later, the freshman John Lucio recorded his first career goal at the collegiate level in the 32nd minute with a sensational kick to the back of the net next to the right post. He drilled the kick in the air off a header from the opposing team. Lucio doubled the lead with his first collegiate goal, sending MSU Denver into halftime ahead 2-0.

Dominican pulled one back in the 52nd minute, but the Roadrunners responded in the closing stages.

In the 81st minute, Adan Perez finished a pass from Maxwell Farnum to restore the two-goal cushion and close out the 3-1 win.

MSU Denver outshot the Penguins 15-8 and earned a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Nick McNeil came up big with five saves to preserve the victory.

The win moves the Roadrunners to 1-0-2 on the year after a pair of season-opening draws. They will head to Austin, Texas to play St. Edwards at 11 a.m. MT on Sunday morning.
