DENVER, Colo. – MSU Denver women's soccer generated consistent second-half pressure but couldn't break through in a 2-0 loss to Western Oregon on Sunday afternoon at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
Western Oregon struck early, taking the lead in the 9th minute when Ciara Garcia finished a pass from Olivia Boger.
The Wolves doubled their advantage late, as Lillian Mickel added an insurance goal in the 86th minute.
The Roadrunners found their rhythm after halftime, recording seven of their eight total shots in the second half.
Monica Yoder and Nicole Thompson each put shots on target, while Jenelle Arenibas also tested the Western Oregon goalkeeper.
MSU Denver goalkeeper Kayla Caballero turned in another standout performance, collecting seven saves to keep the Roadrunners within striking distance.
Despite the defeat, the Roadrunners matched Western Oregon in midfield play and showed resilience with late attacking chances, but ultimately couldn't convert.
MSU Denver (0-1-1) now looks ahead to another home matchup on Thursday against Seattle Pacific as they continue non-conference play.
