LAS VEGAS, N.M. — MSU Denver men's basketball picked up a crucial RMAC road victory Thursday evening, knocking off New Mexico Highlands 95–83 behind a career night from junior guard Logan Threatt.
The Roadrunners improve to 7-12 overall and 5-6 in RMAC play, moving past a Highlands squad that entered the night ahead of them in the conference standings at 6-5. The win came in a tightly contested matchup that stayed back-and-forth deep into the second half before MSU Denver took control in the final minutes.
Threatt delivered a breakout performance, pouring in a career-high 25 points to lead the Roadrunners. The guard was lethal from beyond the arc and at the stripe, knocking down 4-of-5 from three-point range and 11-of-12 free throws, both season bests, while adding five rebounds and three assists. Threatt's steady hand at the line late helped MSU Denver create separation and shut the door.
Adam Hackett continued his strong scoring stretch with 16 points, his second-highest total of the season, while extending his double-digit scoring streak to three straight games. Hackett also came up big in the closing minutes with key free throws and interior finishes that helped put the game on ice.
Quave Propst Allison turned in one of his most complete games of the year with 14 points, while pacing the team with six rebounds and six assists.
MSU Denver showed impressive offensive efficiency across the board, finishing 10-of-21 from three-point range — their fourth-best mark this season — and posting season highs with 29 made free throws on 38 attempts. The Roadrunners also made their presence felt defensively, tying a season high with nine blocks, with four different players (Holmes, Barker, Unachukwu, Thomason) recording two blocks apiece.
After multiple lead changes and ties throughout the second half, the turning point came at the 4:01 mark, when Amare Bethel drilled a go-ahead three-pointer that put MSU Denver in front for good. From there, Threatt and Hackett repeatedly converted at the free-throw line to preserve the margin and secure the pivotal Thursday night road win.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., when they take on a Fort Lewis team that is undefeated (10-0) in RMAC play.
