@MSUDenverWSOC: Roadrunners Battle with Black Hills State, Fall Short at Home

DENVER – MSU Denver women's soccer battled Black Hills State through most of Sunday afternoon's match at the Assembly Athletic Complex, but two goals in the final six minutes proved decisive as the Roadrunners fell 2-0.

The teams played to a scoreless first half, with MSU Denver staying within reach against a Black Hills State squad that entered the match with a 6-1-1 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Roadrunners continued to compete throughout the second half, keeping the match even deep into the closing minutes.

MSU Denver created opportunities of its own, finishing with nine shots compared to eight for the Yellow Jackets. The Roadrunners also held a 6-3 advantage in second-half shots and earned three corner kicks after halftime as they looked to find the breakthrough.

Tatum Flynn put a shot on target in the 53rd minute, forcing Black Hills State goalkeeper Rian Barthel to make a save. Flynn finished with two shots, including one on goal, while Jasmine Bea Lumbera also attempted two shots for the Roadrunners. Jocelyn Thompson and Madrid Mack each added two and one shots, respectively, as MSU Denver continued to press for a goal.

Goalkeeper Kiley Hyde played all 90 minutes for the Roadrunners and made two saves to keep Black Hills State off the scoreboard through the majority of the contest. The Yellow Jackets finally broke through in the 86th minute when Ally Boysen scored to take a 1-0 lead.

Black Hills State added an insurance goal in the 89th minute, with Ivy Agee finding the net off an assist from Boysen to make it 2-0. Despite the late goals, MSU Denver finished with a narrow edge in total shots and continued to generate chances until the final whistle.
