CHADRON, Neb. — MSU Denver turned in a dominant opening half Thursday evening at Chadron State, but a stunning second-half swing resulted in an 84-77 loss to the Eagles, dropping the Roadrunners to 7-16 overall and 5-10 in RMAC play.
The Roadrunners controlled much of the first 20 minutes, shooting efficiently and spreading the scoring across the lineup. MSU Denver placed five players in double figures and consistently found quality looks from the perimeter and at the free-throw line. The balanced attack allowed the Roadrunners to build momentum early and carry a strong edge into halftime.
Logan Threatt paced MSU Denver with 18 points, knocking down 2-of-4 from three-point range and a perfect 6-of-6 from the stripe while pulling down five rebounds. Amare Bethel added 15 points, connecting on four three-pointers, helping stretch Chadron State's defense throughout the night.
Inside, Ace Hackett and Brian Unachukwu each grabbed a team-high six rebounds, with Unachukwu adding three blocks to anchor the paint defensively. The Roadrunners' collective effort on the glass and interior defense helped fuel their strong first-half showing.
But the second half unraveled quickly.
Chadron State's Jackson Schauer caught fire from beyond the arc and swung the momentum decisively. Schauer shot an impressive 8-of-11 from three-point range and finished with a game-high 26 points, spearheading the Eagles' surge. His perimeter barrage erased MSU Denver's advantage and forced the Roadrunners to play from behind down the stretch.
Despite the offensive balance and strong first-half execution, MSU Denver struggled to slow Chadron State's rhythm in the final 20 minutes. The loss marks the Roadrunners' fourth straight setback.
MSU Denver will look to regroup quickly as it heads to South Dakota Mines on Saturday, aiming to rediscover the consistency that carried it through the opening half Thursday night.
