WICHITA, Kan. – The MSU Denver baseball team continued its hot start to the 2026 season on Sunday afternoon, rolling to a 9–2 victory over Newman to complete the series in Wichita and extend its winning streak to seven straight games to open the year.
The Roadrunners controlled the game from start to finish, scoring in five different innings and limiting Newman to just two late runs.
MSU Denver struck first in the opening frame. After Brooks Rasmussen doubled to left, Lathan Buzard drove him home with an RBI single to right field, giving the Roadrunners an early 1–0 lead.
The offense broke the game open in the third and fourth innings, beginning with Marques Abulhosn's first home run of the day. The junior second baseman launched a solo shot to right in the third, then followed it up one inning later with a two-run homer, going deep in back-to-back innings to push the lead to 5–0. Abulhosn finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
MSU Denver added to the cushion in the fifth when Brayden Oram belted a solo home run to left field, marking his first of the season. Oram had a standout afternoon, going 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs, and a run scored to lead the team in hits.
The Roadrunners put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, scoring three runs behind smart baserunning and clutch hitting. Rasmussen reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single from Royce Vandine. Oram followed with another RBI single, and a heads-up baserunning play allowed MSU Denver to tack on its ninth run of the afternoon.
Buzard capped off an impressive weekend by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk, while also stealing two bases. Rasmussen crossed the
plate a team-high three times, finishing 2-for-5 from the leadoff spot.
On the mound, Nolan Livsey earned the win to move to 2–0 on the season. The right-hander worked 4.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on three hits, striking out three while working around six walks.
The Roadrunners' bullpen was nearly flawless. Noah Marks, Nick Vilims, and Michael Banderas combined to throw 3.1 innings of relief, allowing just one baserunner to close out the win.
MSU Denver finished with 15 hits and scored seven of its nine runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings, showcasing the depth and balance of the lineup.
With the victory, the Roadrunners remain unbeaten through seven games and will look to keep the momentum rolling as the 2026 campaign continues.
