DENVER – For the second consecutive week, MSU Denver women's basketball standout Keira Mitchell has been named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Mitchell once again anchored the Roadrunners on the defensive end during a two-game weekend, leading the team with 14 rebounds and six blocks across contests against nationally ranked Colorado Mesa and Western Colorado. Her presence in the paint was a key factor as
MSU Denver bounced back from a tough loss on Thursday to earn a statement win over the Mountaineers on Saturday.
In Saturday's victory over Western Colorado, Mitchell delivered one of her most complete performances of the season. She finished with eight rebounds, four blocks, and four steals, impacting the game on nearly every defensive possession. Mitchell played a central role in MSU Denver's dominant opening quarter, as the Roadrunners held Western Colorado to just three points in the first quarter, the fewest points allowed in any quarter this season by MSU Denver.
Earlier in the weekend, Mitchell led the Roadrunners defensively against No. 4-ranked Colorado Mesa, pulling down six rebounds and recording two blocks while battling one of the top frontcourts in the country.
Mitchell's back-to-back weekly honors highlight her consistency and versatility on the defensive end, where she continues to set the tone for the Roadrunners' defensive identity.
The sophomore has been a cornerstone of MSU Denver's recent success and will look to keep the momentum going as the Roadrunners continue RMAC play later this week.
