@MSUDenverBSB: Martinez’s Walk-Off Grand Slam Caps Roadrunners Comeback Win

DENVER – In one of the most thrilling finishes of the season, MSU Denver Roadrunners baseball stormed back late to defeat Adams State Grizzlies 11-9 on Friday afternoon, extending their winning streak to seven games. The Roadrunners improve to 21-6 overall and a perfect 9-0 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

Trailing 9-6 entering the ninth inning, MSU Denver delivered a dramatic rally capped by Alek Martinez, who crushed a walk-off grand slam to seal the comeback victory and send the home crowd into a frenzy.

The Roadrunners got on the board early when Blake Wilson laced an RBI double in the first inning to tie the game at 1-1. After falling behind, MSU Denver chipped away, highlighted by a solo home run from Michael Deitz in the sixth inning.

The turning point began in the seventh, when the Roadrunners strung together key at-bats. River Jackson delivered an RBI double, followed by an RBI single from Noah Wicks, an RBI double from Jake Dodge, and a fielder's choice RBI from Martinez to cut the deficit to 8-6.

After Adams State added another run, Wilson jumpstarted the ninth inning with a leadoff solo home run, pulling MSU Denver within two at 9-7. The Roadrunners continued to apply pressure, loading the bases before Martinez stepped in and delivered the decisive blow with his grand slam to complete the comeback and secure the 11-9 win.

At the plate, MSU Denver showcased its depth with multiple standout performances. Jackson went 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, and a walk, while Wilson finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a home run, and a walk. Deitz added three runs scored and an RBI, and Martinez drove in five runs, highlighted by the game-winning swing.

Brayden Oram and Brooks Rasmussen each contributed with two-hit performances as the Roadrunners piled up base knocks throughout the game.

On the mound, Michael Banderas earned the win in relief after tossing two innings, allowing just one run on two hits. Gavin Kaiser was dominant out of the bullpen as well, throwing two scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out two to keep MSU Denver within striking distance late.

With the win, the Roadrunners remain undefeated in conference play and will look to keep the momentum going as they host Adams State in a doubleheader Saturday.
