LAS VEGAS, N.M. — The MSU Denver baseball team continued its dominant run through RMAC play Friday afternoon, erupting for 19 runs in a 19-5 rout of New Mexico Highlands.
With the win, the Roadrunners improve to 25-6 overall and remain a perfect 13-0 in conference play, extending their winning streak to 11 games.
MSU Denver wasted no time setting the tone, delivering a six-run first inning that immediately put the Cowboys on their heels. After loading the bases early, capitalizing on miscues helped the Roadrunners jump out to a commanding lead. That momentum only built in the third inning, when MSU Denver plated five more runs to stretch the advantage to 12-3 and effectively take control of the game.
Despite the offensive explosion, the Roadrunners did it without leaving the yard, scoring 19 runs on 17 hits through a relentless, line-drive approach and aggressive baserunning.
Leading the charge was Noah Wicks, who turned in a historic performance. The catcher went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate, driving in five runs and scoring four times. Wicks became the first Roadrunner to record six hits in a game since last season, when Gavin Schmeh hit for the cycle.
Jared Swarbrick also delivered a big day offensively, going 3-for-6 with four RBIs and three runs scored, while River Jackson reached base consistently, finishing 2-for-3 with four runs scored, two RBIs, and two walks.
Alek Martinez made the most of his opportunities, going 2-for-2 with four RBIs, and Brooks Rasmussen impacted the game in multiple ways—scoring twice, driving in a run, drawing two walks, and swiping three bases.
On the mound, Jake Syverson delivered a complete-game performance, tossing all seven innings while allowing five runs on nine hits and striking out three. Syverson improved to 5-0 on the season with the victory.
Andrew Baltazar took the loss for the Cowboys, falling to 1-5 after surrendering 11 runs (10 earned) in just 2.1 innings of work.
After New Mexico Highlands briefly cut into the deficit with three runs in the second and two more in the third, MSU Denver responded each time, adding runs in four separate innings to maintain full control. The Roadrunners tacked on insurance runs late, including a three-run seventh to cap the scoring.
Now riding an 11-game winning streak and still unbeaten in RMAC play, MSU Denver will look to keep its momentum going as it faces New Mexico Highlands in a doubleheader on Saturday.
