LAS VEGAS, N.M. — The MSU Denver baseball team kept its perfect RMAC record intact Saturday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader from New Mexico Highlands to extend its winning streak to 13 games.
With the pair of wins, the Roadrunners improve to 27-6 overall and a flawless 15-0 in conference play.
Game One: MSU Denver 3, New Mexico Highlands 2
MSU Denver rallied late to take game one 3-2, scoring all three of its runs over the final two innings to erase a 2-0 deficit.
After being held off the board through five innings, the Roadrunners broke through in the sixth before delivering the decisive blow in the seventh. Timely execution and pressure on the basepaths fueled the comeback, highlighted by key situational hitting that plated the go-ahead runs.
River Jackson led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance and a run scored, while Blake Wilson and Brooks Rasmussen each added two hits, with Rasmussen also scoring a run.
On the mound, Alejandro Maltos García kept MSU Denver within striking distance, tossing 5.1 innings while allowing just two runs and striking out five.
Out of the bullpen, Carter Swan shut the door in the final frame, earning the win to move to 4-1 on the season after a scoreless inning of work.
Game Two: MSU Denver 17, New Mexico Highlands 2
The Roadrunners followed up the comeback win with a dominant 17-2 victory in game two, piling up a season-high 22 hits in a complete offensive showcase.
MSU Denver wasted no time, erupting for six runs in the first inning and never looking back. The lineup produced from top to bottom, consistently stringing together hits and capitalizing on scoring opportunities.
River Jackson delivered one of the top performances of the season, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored, two walks, and an RBI—finishing a home run shy of the cycle. Marques Abulhosn added a 2-for-5 effort with two runs and an RBI, while Noah Wicks went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Jared Swarbrick contributed a 2-for-3 day with two runs, two RBIs, and a walk, and Royce Vandine drove in three runs while scoring twice.
Alek Martinez continued his strong stretch, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, including a pair of doubles. Brayden Oram (2-for-5, two RBIs) and Brooks Rasmussen (3-for-4, one run) also played key roles in the offensive outburst.
On the mound, Sam Coffman delivered another strong outing, going six innings while allowing two runs and striking out three to improve to 3-0 on the year.
The Roadrunners have now won 13 straight and remain unbeaten in RMAC play, continuing to assert themselves as one of the top teams in the conference.
MSU Denver will look to complete the series sweep against New Mexico Highlands on Sunday.
