SAN ANGELO, Texas – MSU Denver junior defender Grace Johnson scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 75th minute as the Roadrunners opened the 2026 season and the 2026-27 athletic year for all Roadrunner sports with a 1-1 draw at Angelo State on Thursday afternoon.
The Roadrunners (0-0-1) and Rambelles played an evenly matched contest, with MSU Denver holding a 9-6 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in shots on goal and corners.
After a scoreless first half, Angelo State's Juliana Garcia broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, finding the bottom left corner of the net to give the Rambelles a 1-0 advantage.
MSU Denver continued to battle and found the equalizer in the 75th minute. Johnson scored the first goal of her collegiate career to pull the Roadrunners even at 1-1. She ended the match with two shots, sinking one of them in the back of the net.
Maya Woods led the Roadrunners offensively with three shots, including two on goal, while Madrid Mack also recorded three shots and placed one on frame. Kiley Hyde made two saves in goal for MSU Denver, while Angelo State's goalkeeper made three saves.
MSU Denver will look to build on the result in its home opener Saturday, hosting Point Loma at 6 p.m. at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
