DENVER – No. 24 MSU Denver volleyball continued its strong start to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Tuesday night, sweeping Colorado Christian 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-21) at the Auraria Event Center.
The Roadrunners improved to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in RMAC play with their second consecutive conference sweep and fourth victory in their first five RMAC matches. MSU Denver has now won 18 consecutive meetings with Colorado Christian, dating back to October 2015, and has swept the Cougars in each of the last six matchups.
MSU Denver controlled the match from the top, hitting .289 as a team while holding Colorado Christian to a .138 hitting percentage. The Roadrunners finished with 49 kills to the Cougars' 32 and held a 56-50 advantage in digs.
Kami Scott led the Roadrunners with 11 kills on an efficient .409 hitting percentage, adding two block assists. Trynity Martin continued her strong play at the net, recording a career-high nine kills while hitting .444. She also led MSU Denver with two solo blocks and added two block assists.
Mayah Pridgett was particularly efficient offensively, putting down eight kills without an error on 14 attacks for a team-best .571 hitting percentage. Hayden Liebsack added nine kills on .280 hitting, while Brooke Gennerman finished with 10 kills.
Senior setter GabriElle Brewer once again directed the Roadrunners' offense, finishing with 37 assists and 12 digs. Brewer helped MSU Denver produce its strongest offensive sets in the opening and closing frames, as the Roadrunners hit .319 in the first set and .324 in the third.
Defensively, Mia Accomazzo paced MSU Denver with 20 digs, while also contributing four assists and a service ace. The Roadrunners also received seven digs from Megan Hagar and six from Kahlia Maiava.
MSU Denver jumped out to an early lead in the opening set before Colorado Christian battled back to make it 20-20. The Roadrunners responded by winning five of the final seven points to take the set 25-22.
The Roadrunners carried that momentum into the second set, hitting .216 while limiting the Cougars to just .031 hitting. MSU Denver built a lead midway through the frame and closed out the 25-19 victory to move within one set of the sweep.
Colorado Christian again kept the third set competitive, but MSU Denver maintained control down the stretch. The Roadrunners closed the match with a 25-21 third-set victory, completing their second straight conference sweep.
The Roadrunners now hit the road for three consecutive RMAC matches, beginning with their next conference contest away from home.
